Harvest USA’s primary ministry is to men and women struggling with sexual sin, but their secondary ministry is producing resources to help the church apply the gospel to sexual issues.
For the church to welcome sexual sinners, it must be a community of grace where sinful people hear truth in the context of caring relationships, and where they learn that sexual sin isn’t unforgivable.
One of the biggest issue in our churches today, says Tim Geiger, is a lack of transparency. As a result, we have people who struggle with difficult issues — lust, substance abuse, eating disorders — but who have nowhere to go. For them, the church isn’t safe; it’s not where they go to find the help they need.
The Bible never points to our desires as an identity. What the Bible does say is that our attractions are often aspects of our humanity that need to be redeemed by Christ.
While there might not be full healing this side of heaven, churches can offer transgendered men and women a place where they are not projects to be fixed, but people whose stories — and bodies — matter.
