Transparency and Speaking the Truth in Love
By Tim Geiger, PCA Teaching Elder and Executive Director of Harvest USA

One of the biggest issue in our churches today, says Tim Geiger, is a lack of transparency. As a result, we have people who struggle with difficult issues — lust, substance abuse, eating disorders — but who have nowhere to go. For them, the church isn’t safe; it’s not where they go to find the help they need.

We have people being “tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes.” How much better for us — personally and corporately — if instead we spoke the truth in love; if, as an alternative, we cultivated relationships and a climate that encouraged us “to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ” (see Eph. 4:11-15).
