Born on February 13, 1939, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Sproul passed away on December 14 at the age of 78, going home to the Lord whose Word he relentlessly and fearlessly defended.
Perhaps most notably, Dr. Smith was a leading voice in the founding of the Presbyterian Church in America, and he served as the denominations first Stated Clerk. His final working years were spent as a professor and dean at the Greenville Presbyterian Theological Seminary, 1987-2012.
