When the Presbyterian Church in America held its first General Assembly in December 1973, Mills was tapped to lead the new denomination’s church planting efforts.

Joel Belz, founder of WORLD News Group and former General Assembly moderator, died on February 4 at his home in Asheville, N.C., from complications of Parkinson’s disease.

It was not enough to simply bring students to church, Lowrey believed: the church should seek the students out itself.

After serving in Assistant Pastor and Youth Minister roles in Columbus, MS and Montgomery, AL, the family moved to Oxford, MS in 1978 where Jimmy served as the first campus minister for RUF.

Padgett was a Nashville Presbytery moderator and served as a coordinator for RUF.
