Devotion for November 30
By Bryan Chapell

I do not cease to give thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers, that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him, having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know . . . the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might (Eph. 1:16-19).

Along the Mississippi River near my hometown, I have a favorite viewing spot. It’s just beyond the power plant where the river is diverted into a channel to turn giant turbines that supply the city’s power.

As the water roars through the river channel, frothing, tumbling, and swallowing everything in its path, I’m awed by its power. I am also reminded of when the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters to create the world as we know it.

The immense power I can observe in the boiling waters of this one river’s channel is but a drop in the bucket compared to the immeasurably great power of the Holy Spirit at creation. And it is that same Spirit, who now lives in me – and you!

He makes his power visible to the eyes of the heart, so we can see by faith that he is transforming creation again, working all things together for the good of those who love him.

Prayer:
Father, thank you for the gift of your Holy Spirit. Please open the eyes of my heart to see the immense power at work in my behalf, so that I live with unceasing thanksgiving for you and with unyielding confidence in your plans for me.
