The AIC on Abuse Delivers Advice on Overtures 40 and 41

The Ad Interim Committee on Abuse has delivered advice on 48th GA Overtures 40 and 41 to the Overtures Committee as requested by last year’s General Assembly in St. Louis.

Overtures 40 and 41 from 2021 were not acted on by last year’s general assembly. Instead the St. Louis GA recommitted these overtures to this year’s GA and referred them to the AIC on Abuse for advice.

The two overtures are BCO amendments that directly relate to the issues of abuse in the church. Overture 40 is an amendment to the BCO to protect victims testifying in church courts. Overture 41 is an amendment to the BCO allowing for non-Christian witnesses to be able to testify in church courts.

The report of the AIC is only advice only and must be acted on by commissioners who are members of the Overtures Committee.
