The PCA’s Stated Clerk Pro Tempore Bryan Chapell is communicating this request from MNA’s Ministry to State Director Chuck Garriott, who invites all PCA churches to join in united prayer for our nation this Sunday, January 10.

A suggested prayer could include thoughts such as these:

Heavenly Father, the events of the past week as well as the transition of leadership in upcoming days give us much cause to seek your mercy and grace for our nation. If we have not shown proper respect for everyone, we ask forgiveness for sins of anger, arrogance, violence, and willful blindness (1 Pet. 2:17), remembering our Savior’s instruction to ask forgiveness for our debts as we forgive our debtors (Matt. 6:12) .

We pray for those in authority over us as your Word instructs (1 Tim. 2:1-2). We pray for the courage to honor those who serve as civil magistrates by your permission and for your sovereign purposes (Rom. 13:1). Finally, we ask that you remind us not to put our trust in princes (Psalm 146:3), but to trust in the Lord, who is our refuge and strength, a very present help in time of trouble (Psalm 46). The nations may rage but we take our refuge in you (Psalm 2). You alone are our strength and shield; to you alone may our spirits yield. We pray, IN JESUS’ Name. Amen.
