Devotion for November 25
By Bryan Chapell

It is God who arms me with strength and keeps my way secure. He makes my feet like the feet of a deer;
he causes me to stand on the heights (Psalm 18:32-33 NIV).

My family loves vacationing in the mountains of Colorado. There we have often visited a unique stone castle that has a winding staircase leading to a breathtaking but precarious mountaintop view.

When my sons were little, they would climb the stairs with me even though there were no banisters. At the lower levels, I would have to remind them to hold my hand, but as we ascended the stairs, the less reminding they needed. By the time we reached the top, I felt as though my hands were being crushed by two tiny vises! My sons realized that the greater the height the greater the danger.

God wants to take you to the heights of his purposes, but not for you to be afraid. He assures that you are held firmly in the grasp of the One whose infinite strength rules the heights, even if you can’t hold onto him.

He will not let you go. So, you can go wherever he leads, willingly and unafraid. No height he calls you to climb is too high for the King of Heaven to hold you safely!

Prayer:
Father, as you lead me to greater heights in Christ, help me to go willingly and unafraid, knowing that you hold me – and will not let me go.
