Devotion for February 26
By byFaith Staff

I want you to understand that the head of every man is Christ, the head of a wife is her husband, and the head of Christ is God (1 Cor. 11:3).

Only by having a close relationship with the Savior and regular exposure to the mind of God in Scripture will a man know what it means to be the head of a home. Christ must be his head before a man can be the biblical head of his home.

Always we must be in submission to Christ in order to know how He wants us to lead others and what to expect in their submission. That is why Christ himself submitted to his Father: in order to teach us what biblical submission is.

The submission taught by Christ’s example was never mindless or whimpering surrender of His gifts, but full expression of His privileges and resources on behalf of others. He did not abandon His wisdom, power, or authority, but humbly applied them to accomplishing the will of His Father for the benefit of loved ones.

Only when a man truly humbles himself in this way can he give a proper account of his headship to God. Such a man prays for his family, works for its welfare, places the needs of others above his own, and asks God to help him be the man God desires.

The head of a home stands before God on behalf of his family, and he lives before his family on behalf of God. This is the only headship God honors!

Prayer: Father, please give me the desire to serve more than to be served, to consider the needs of others above my own, and to trust that You will bless my family when I courageously and consistently submit to Christ in this way. Help me to head my home with Christ’s character and priorities.
