Devotion for February 16
By byFaith Staff

We know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. (Rom. 8:28)

Paul tells us in Romans 8:28 that God works all things together for the good of those who love him. Paul knows we live in a fallen world. We’re going to face hard things. Not all seems good or feels good or is what good people do, but God is orchestrating all for an eternal good.

The Good Shepherd promises to carry us through whatever we encounter, and to use it to deepen our faith, make us dependent on Him, and ultimately to defeat all that opposes our eternal welfare. He is always working the end game. He’s more concerned about your spiritual eternity than making this temporary life easy.

We know that it is possible to draw a straight line with a crooked stick, and our sovereign, loving Lord is able to draw an eternal line of blessing with the corrupted features of this world.

When we love Him, He draws a line toward our eternity with everything we face on earth. The corruptions of our world do not hinder the eternal plans of our gracious God but draw us to Him.

Prayer: Father, please give me confidence in the eternal good You are accomplishing through all of life’s circumstances. Help me to remember the divine love made certain through the cross of Jesus, so that I will keep believing that you love me and will use all things to accomplish your good goals for my eternity. Help me to trust you no matter what I face today.
