The Administrative Committee has selected the elders who will serve on the committee tasked with searching for the nominee to serve as the next stated clerk of the Presbyterian Church in America. At its meeting yesterday, the permanent committee appointed a search committee consisting of four ruling elders and four teaching elders.
The committee members are Frank Cohee, Drew Field, Mike Hearon, Jason Helopoulos, Marty Moore, E.J. Nusbaum, Rick Phillips, and Alan Walters.
Frank Cohee is a ruling elder at Cornerstone Presbyterian Church in Huntsville, Alabama. He is a former naval intelligence specialist who works in cybersecurity. He has served as a member of the Administrative Committee and chairman of the Nominating Committee.
Drew Field is a teaching elder who serves as executive pastor of Redeemer West Side in New York. He has served in numerous roles on behalf of the General Assembly, including as chairman of Geneva Benefits Group and as a member of the Administrative Committee.
Mike Hearon is a teaching elder who serves as lead pastor at First Presbyterian Church in Augusta, Georgia. He has served as moderator of Savannah River Presbytery and as a member of the Administrative Committee.
Jason Helopoulos is a teaching elder who serves as the senior pastor of University Reformed Church in East Lansing, Michigan. He has served as moderator of Great Lakes Presbytery, and as a member of the RUF permanent committee and the Administrative Committee.
Marty Moore is a ruling elder at Chestnut Mountain Presbyterian Church in Flowery Branch, Georgia. He is a CPA and chief financial officer. He has served on the board of Covenant College as treasurer and as a member of the Administrative Committee.
E.J. Nusbaum is a ruling elder at Village Seven Presbyterian Church in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He is a retired naval captain and insurance agent. He has served the General Assembly as moderator, chairman of the Overtures Committee, and as a member of the Standing Judicial Commission for over a decade.
Rick Phillips is a teaching elder who serves as the senior pastor at Second Presbyterian Church in Greenville, South Carolina. He has served in numerous roles at the presbytery and denominational level, including as a member of the Administrative Committee.
Alan Walters is a ruling elder at First Presbyterian Church in Jackson, Mississippi. He is a retired chief executive officer of a bank. He has served on numerous presbytery committees in addition to his role as a member of the PCA’s Administrative Committee.
According to the Rules of Assembly Operation, “The Administrative Committee of General Assembly has the responsibility of nominating to the General Assembly the person to fill the office of the Stated Clerk” (3-4).
