In the PCA, a presbytery is one of the three courts of the church, situated between the session and the General Assembly. A presbytery has a defined geography, whether it’s a city (ex: Metro Atlanta) or a wider region (ex: Pacific Northwest). Within this prescribed district, the presbytery has jurisdiction “over what is common to the ministers, Sessions, and churches” (Book of Church Order 11-4).

Over the course of its history, the PCA has grown from 16 to 87 presbyteries. The size of each presbytery differs, both in the number of churches and the number of communing members contained within it.

To determine the largest presbyteries, we analyzed the available data in three categories:

  1. The total number of churches.
  2. The total number of communing members.
  3. The total amount of tithes and offerings.

There are six presbyteries which make all three lists: Calvary, Metro Atlanta, Mississippi Valley, North Texas, Potomac, and Tennessee Valley.
