On Dec. 4, 1973, the PCA’s inaugural General Assembly took place in Birmingham, Alabama. The event is commonly understood as the official birthday of the denomination, and the PCA will mark the occasion with a day of prayer on Dec. 3, 2023.

It is the second day in 2023 set aside to pray for the PCA during its 50th anniversary celebration. The first was May 21. In May, Sue Pitzer of the PCA 50th Anniversary Committee talked about how the committee “wanted to foster a culture of prayer and praise akin to what took place in 1973.”

As in May, churches and members can sign up for a 15-minute time slot to pray for the denomination with the goal of holding a 24-hour prayer vigil to praise God for his faithfulness and pray for his favor upon the denomination for the next 50 years and beyond.

The Day of Prayer website offers guides for personal and corporate prayer along with a bulletin insert.
