Liam Goligher Resigns from Philadelphia’s Tenth Presbyterian Church
By byFaith Staff

On Dec. 1, Liam Goligher resigned from Tenth Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia after a past arrest for improper conduct became public. He had served as senior minister since 2011.

Goligher was arrested in 2014, along with a female church leader, and was cited for “personal conduct” in a public park in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The news was first reported by Ministry Watch, an evangelical ministry watchdog group. The term “personal conduct,” Lancaster police told Ministry Watch, can refer to “lewd or sexual behavior.” Goligher’s arrest was made public recently by Anglican Watch, an abuse watchdog website.

Tenth Presbyterian released a statement acknowledging that Goligher had resigned and that and the church had no prior knowledge about the citation of personal conduct. The statement says that Philadelphia Presbytery will investigate the matter, and a new search for a senior minister will begin after the congregation formally dissolves its call to Goligher.

“When the Church is confronted by the appearance of sin, her mission is not to abandon people but to work to seek the truth in the situation and encourage any needed repentance and reconciliation with God and one another. We serve a loving God who came into this sinful world in the Person of Jesus Christ in order to save humankind from its sin.”
