Our Time to Trust God
Galatians 4:1–7
But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son. Galatians 4:4

There is a fullness of time in which Christ comes to each of us. God comes in the fullness of time to each heart.

Paul referred to this, using the illustration of planting, growth, and harvest. He said in reference to himself and Apollos, “I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth. So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth” (1 Cor. 3:6–7). This is the way it is in evangelism. God begins to work in a heart. He does so through sowing the seed of his Word. At the beginning it may be such a small seed that you hardly know the plant is there. But the Word of God is present and growing. Then somebody else comes along and waters it a little, and there is some more growth. From beginning to end the work is God’s who causes each of his ministers to contribute what is needed in the proper fullness of time.

I wonder if that is the way it is with you. There may be somebody who has sown the seed of the gospel in your heart. One person has explained the gospel to you. Another has witnessed to the reality of Christ’s power from his or her own experience with God. A third has answered your questions. A minister has taught you from the Bible through faithful exposition. But you have not yet come to the point at which you have made a personal, believing response to Jesus Christ.

I wonder if that time might be now.

What better time than now! I cannot say, in your particular case, that this is the time. But I can warn you against delaying beyond the time God has established. Perhaps God is saying, “Jesus, who came two thousand years ago and was born in a manger, also died on the cross. And the man who died on the cross died for you. He died in your place, for your sin. After that he rose again and now lives for ever and works to draw people just like you to faith in himself as the Savior. I want you to abandon your sinful way of life and follow him.”

If God is saying those things to you and is calling you to follow Jesus, whom you have heard about and know a great deal about already, then this is the time, the fullness of time, for you to make a commitment.

Say, “Lord Jesus Christ, I acknowledge my need of you as my Savior and I commit myself to you. I promise to follow you from this time onward and for ever.” I hope you will do that if you have never done it before.
