Devotion for March 17
By byFaith Staff

Our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of your hand, O king. But if not, be it known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up
(Dan. 3:17-18).

All kinds of false faiths are promoted in the world. “If you give enough money…,” or “If you pray enough…,” or “If you summon up enough confidence, then God will give you what you want.” Such promises cannot be found in Scripture, but prey on the poor, the desperate, and the needy.

True faith is not deciding what we want and demanding that God make it happen. True faith is doing what God commands and trusting him to provide what is best for eternity.

The book of Daniel provides a perfect example. When the prophet’s friends were tested with threats of a fiery furnace, their faith did not waver. They said, “Our God is able to deliver us.” Then they added, “But even if he does not, we will still serve him.”

Whether they lived or died they had faith that God would deliver from evil in the way that he knew was best for their eternal good.

The God who sent his Son for you can be trusted. Do as he desires. He will supply the rescue that is right.

Prayer:
Lord, help me to do as you desire by trusting you more than my desires. Focus my faith on your unwavering faithfulness so that I may fulfill your eternal purposes.
