Devotion for June 22
By Render Caines

You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might (Deut 6:5).

My wife just found a blonde hair dangling from my beard. Thankfully, my wife is a blonde. She laughed as she lifted it off my face. Despite my failures at times to love as I should, she knows I love her. I frequently tell her so – not just for her sake, but also for mine. Saying, “I love you,” rekindles in me a desire to show her the love I profess.

I find it important for me to tell Jesus, “I love You.” Those words reawaken within me a desire to love Him with all my heart, soul, strength, and mind. Saying aloud, “Jesus, I love you,” stirs me up to show Him, by His strengthening grace, the truth of my expressed devotion.

I often have to ask my wife’s forgiveness for unloving words or actions. Even more often must ask Jesus to forgive my unlovely behavior. My wife forgives me, and assures me of her love.

And, thank the Lord, Jesus also forgives me, and assures me that nothing can ever separate me from His love. Is it any wonder that I delight to tell Linda, “I love you?” Is it any wonder that I rejoice to tell Jesus, “I love You?”

Prayer:
Jesus, I love you, knowing You first loved me. This day may I show you and others the reality and depth of my love. Amen.
