An Update from MNA
By Steve Dowling
Asset-3-1 1

On October 25, MNA Interim Coordinator Steve Dowling released the following statement:

Dear PCA Pastors and Elders, Brothers and Sisters,

It’s been a little less than a month since I assumed the position of MNA Interim Coordinator. In that time, I’ve had the opportunity to meet with many of our outstanding staff members, ministry teams, and some of our PCA church planters. I look forward to working with them and our Permanent Committee for the remainder of my period of service.

Earlier this month I placed a ninety-day freeze on all discretionary spending. I did this to establish a stronger sense of financial stewardship with our staff and ministry teams, and I wanted them to engage with me on financial matters. Like you, I want MNA to be good stewards of all the resources God is supplying through our faithful donors.

My decision to freeze discretionary spending appears to have added to concerns about MNA financial solvency and our ability to pay our bills. Please let me assure you that MNA is in a strong position from a financial standpoint. As of September 30, 2025, MNA had total assets of approximately $15,705,000 and total liabilities of less than $10,000. We had cash of approximately $2,376,000 and investments in liquid, marketable securities of approximately $10,145,000, almost all of which are invested in US Treasury securities. That said, freezing discretionary spending for some period won’t be the last measure taken, so I’m publishing this information in the hope that those decisions will be viewed for what they are, which is an effort to produce reliable, transparent financials to our Assembly, ministry leaders, and donors.

Despite that foundation it’s clear that MNA does have some accounting and systems-related issues that we are addressing. These relate not to solvency, but to process and accuracy. I’d note similarly that the finance director position is currently vacant and I think it’s essential that we fill that role as soon as we can competently do it. There are many good ministries at MNA that are staffed with faithful men and women but there is also work that needs to be done and we want to do it well. It is my intent, along with our Permanent Committee, to shape MNA into the ministry that we believe God is calling it to be.

MNA is our denomination’s domestic mission agency, and we will need the support of our entire denomination to accomplish our mission and support our church planters. Please continue to have faith in us as I work with our Permanent Committee and MNA staff over these next several months. I will continue to provide you updates on our progress. In the meantime, please continue to pray for us and please continue to support us financially.

In His Grip,
Steve Dowling
