WCF Now Available to Arab World
By Zoe S. Erler

The Westminster Confession of Faith (WCF) is now available for free in Arabic through an effort recently undertaken by Third Millennium Ministries.

“With the political upheaval that is dominating many countries in the Middle East, the church in the Arabic-speaking world is in a more critical need than ever before for a solid understanding of its faith and practice built upon the Scriptures,” said Sherif Gendy, lead translator for the project and coordinator of the Arabic department at Third Millennium.

“There is a huge need for sound biblical resources in Arabic that can aid the church in its mission of building God’s kingdom in that part of the world.”

According to Gendy, a PCA minister and native Egyptian, the WCF is the most “comprehensive and historic” document that summarizes the Reformed faith. And although a previous Arabic version of the work exists, Gendy says it is missing proof texts from the Scriptures and contains significant errors and misrepresentations.

This new iteration, based on the WCF version adopted by the Orthodox Presbyterian Church and the PCA, uses Modern Standard Arabic, which is accessible and relevant. In contrast to much of the literature found in Arabic Christian bookstores, which tends to be more man-centric or based on prosperity gospel teaching, works such as this will provide much-needed biblical truth to the Arab church, according to Gendy.

“The political and social realities in these countries have left many Arabs, both Christians and Muslims, wondering about God’s purposes,” he says. “There is a huge need for sound biblical resources in Arabic that can aid the church in its mission of building God’s kingdom in that part of the world.”

Third Millennium intends for the translation to be utilized by pastors and church leaders in small groups and seminary classes.
