Update on Intinction Vote: Six in Favor of BCO Change, 12 Against
By

The 40th General Assembly passed an overture to revise “Book of Church Order” (BCO) 58-5. The change would prohibit the practice of intinction (dipping bread into a common cup instead of receiving the bread and cup separately). Two-thirds of the PCA’s 80 presbyteries must approve the change for the motion to pass.

As of Oct. 31, 18 presbyteries had reported their vote to the Stated Clerk’s office, six in favor, and 12 against. Those who voted in favor of the revision (to ban intinction) were Blue Ridge, Calvary, Grace, Korean Eastern, Westminster, and Wisconsin presbyteries. Those who voted against it (to allow intinction) were Covenant, Eastern Canada, Eastern Pennsylvania, Gulfstream, Houston Metro, Metro Atlanta, Missouri, Northern New England, Pacific, Siouxlands, Southeast Alabama, and Western Canada presbyteries.
