Upcoming Women’s Conferences: Case Studies for Unity in Diversity
By Zoe S. Erler

The PCA is surprisingly diverse, says Karen Hodge, coordinator for the PCA Discipleship Ministries (CDM) women’s ministry. But it was only after she traveled the country that she realized this.

“When I went to places like LA and Philadelphia and Dallas, I saw the diversity of our denomination … I saw the diversity across all different lines, but we don’t know this about each other.”

As a result, Hodge decided to focus this year’s women’s conferences on Christ’s call for believers to experience unity in diversity. The last three of these ONE Conferences are taking place in Annapolis (Sept. 28-29), Chattanooga (Oct. 5-6), and St. Louis (Oct. 19-20).

These three cities, and Jackson, Mississippi, which hosted the first conference in April, have churches that are working hard at diversity, explains Hodge.

Courtney Doctor, author of “From Garden to Glory: A Bible Study on the Bible’s Story”, and former director of women’s ministry at Kirk of the Hills, will be teaching from John 17 on Jesus’ mandate that his disciples “be one as [He] and the [Father] are one.”

“It was so important that Jesus prayed this prayer on His way to the cross,” Hodge says. “It was one of the last things we hear Him say.”

Conference workshops will break down the issues that divide women from each other and from God, including shame, age, race, and conflict.

Cost for the pre-conferences is $25. Early bird registration for the regular conferences is $75; $100 for regular registration.
