For 45 years the PCA has stood for the gospel, and in the past decade the denomination has begun thinking seriously about applying the gospel to social issues. In doing so, Lucas is concerned that we might follow the path of progressives in the previous generation and lose the gospel.

Today’s pastors can learn valuable lessons from African-American Presbyterian pastors who have gone before, and Lucas wants to share these stories with his fellow elders.

Though our founding heroes were flawed men, they were used by God to forge a continuing church that preserved much of American Presbyterianism’s best, those very things that attracted me at the start.
