Symposium on C.S. Lewis’s Influence & Relevance Today

The Presbyterian Heritage Center will present an “International Symposium on C.S. Lewis: Influence & Relevance Today” November 6-8, in Montreat, North Carolina. According to organizers, the symposium is an opportunity to learn more about the work of Lewis, the Inklings, Tolkien, and Dorothy Sayers.

Douglas Gresham, Lewis’s stepson, will provide a personal glimpse into C.S. Lewis and Gresham’s mother, Joy Davidman. Gresham is the only surviving member of the Lewis family. He is also executor of the Lewis estate, executive producer of the Narnia films produced by Walt Disney Pictures, and executive producer for upcoming Lewis films from Netflix. 

Don King, professor and faculty fellow at Montreat College, will discuss “Influence & Relevance of C.S. Lewis” and “The Poetry of C.S. Lewis.” King is the author of “C.S. Lewis, Poet: The Legacy of His Poetic Impulse” and “Plain to the Inward Eye: Selected Essays on C.S. Lewis.”

Dr. David Downing of the Marion E. Wade Center will talk about “Mere Christianity: The Impact 75 Years  Later of the BBC Radio Broadcasts” and “C.S. Lewis: Relevance in the 21st Century.” Downing is the author of “Planets in Peril: A Critical Study of C.S. Lewis’s Ransom Trilogy” and “The Most Reluctant Convert: C.S. Lewis’s Journey to Faith.”

Dr. Diana Glyer, professor of English at Azusa Pacific, will discuss “Lewis, Tolkien & the Inklings,” and their interactions with one another.
