Early Tuesday morning, Stephen M. Fox died of a heart attack. Founding member of the denomination and ruling elder at Trinity Presbyterian in Montgomery, Ala., Fox had just finished his morning devotions when his wife Cam found him slumped over in his chair.
“I consider him a character in Pilgrim’s Progress called Mr. Great Heart,” says Charles Dunahoo, former coordinator for CEP and close friend to Fox. “He loved the Lord. He loved people. He just had a great heart.”
Owner and president of Walker Printing Company, Fox was a businessman by trade, a family man, and dedicated servant of the PCA. Over the past several decades, Fox had served on various committees, including Christian Education & Publications (CEP), Mission to North America, and the Administrative Committee. He also served on the board of Great Commission Publications, and was moderator of the 29th General Assembly.
“He opened the 29th General Assembly in 2001 with these words: ‘It’s not about you. It’s not about me. It’s all about Jesus.’ And that set the tone not only in that General Assembly but for many General Assemblies to come,” remembers his pastor, TE Claude McRoberts.
Fox is survived by wife Cam, three daughters, and several grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, February 6, at 3:30 (CST) at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 1728 S. Hull Street, Montgomery.
The family requests that memorial contributions be given to Trinity Presbyterian Church in lieu of flowers.
