The board of trustees of Greenville Presbyterian Theological Seminary has appointed a presidential search committee to search for a successor to its current president, Dr. Joseph A. Pipa, Jr., who will retire from the office of president on July 1, 2021.

Regarding the search, Chairman of the Board of Trustees C. Fredric Marcinak, III, said “The members of the board, the faculty, and staff of the seminary, the distinguished alumni of this institution, and the current student body are deeply indebted to Dr. Pipa for his years of extraordinary service and tireless devotion to the cause of Christ and the advancement of confessional Christian education in our day. In an era of declining devotion to the Word of God and its proclamation from pulpits across America, ‘Dr. P,’ as he is affectionately known, has boldly planted the flag for the Reformed faith in America. He is loved and appreciated, and he will be long remembered as a bold, gifted, and capable leader. We are thankful that Dr. Pipa has agreed to remain at the seminary as a professor, author, and mentor to future generations of seminary students even after he retires from the presidency.”

Established in 1987, Greenville Presbyterian Theological Seminary equips preachers, pastors, and churchmen for Christ’s Kingdom. Originally founded by teaching and ruling elders in the PCA, the seminary continues to provide the PCA with men who promote an enduring Reformation in Christ’s church, according to God’s Word. Most of the seminary’s students, graduates, professors, and trustees are members in the PCA.

Pipa has served the seminary since his appointment on January 1, 1998. He is a graduate of Belhaven University, Reformed Theological Seminary Jackson, and Westminster Theological Seminary. Originally ordained into the Presbyterian Church in the United States (PCUS), he is a charter member of the PCA. He has served PCA congregations in Tchula, MS; Houston, TX; and Escondido, CA. He is currently a member of Calvary Presbytery in South Carolina. He and his wife Carolyn “Sissy” Floyd Pipa live in Greenville and attend Woodruff Road Presbyterian Church (PCA) in Simpsonville. They have two grown children, and ten grandchildren.
