CTS Makes Education More Accessible
By Megan Fowler

Covenant Theological Seminary has developed new degree programs in new formats to make theological education more accessible to ministry leaders. Students can complete the master of arts in biblical and theological studies (MABTS) and master of arts in ministry (MAM) degree programs online or in a hybrid online/on-campus format.

Pending approval of Covenant’s accreditors, the new degrees will begin in the fall of 2018. Applicants can apply now.

At CTS, the primary task is to train students for pastoral and ministry leadership — including counseling, church planting, campus ministry, chaplaincy, and missionary service.

The new degree programs and formats are designed to meet the need for theological training that is solidly biblical but also flexible and accessible.

The MABTS degree program is a 66-credit program designed to increase a student’s knowledge of Scripture and equip the student for teaching ministry in the church or in an academic setting. Students can also use the online MABTS program as a first step toward completing a master of divinity (M.Div.) degree.

The MAM degree program is a hybrid online/on-campus program that can be completed with as few as three trips to campus for intensive courses. The 54-credit degree program includes concentrations in biblical studies and Christian ministry, city ministry, cultural apologetics and communication, or educational ministries.

Jay Sklar, vice president of academics and professor of Old Testament, sees the new degrees as meeting a growing need in the church: “The purpose of these degrees is to provide solidtraining that is adaptable to the unique ministry needs and goals of each student.”
