Bill Leonard Goes Home to Glory
By

Bill Leonard went home to glory at 12:30 am on Sept. 21 in Colorado Springs. He was 98. Leonard founded two churches in Colorado Springs, one in 1953 right after leaving active duty from the Korean War, Grace Presbyterian, and another in 1972, Village Seven Presbyterian.

He and his wife Helen developed VBS programs that helped build both congregations.

Leonard was also the chaplain endorser for 40 years of the BP, EP, RPCES, PCA (and OP, RP). He founded the Presbyterian and Reformed Joint Commission on Chaplains and Military Personnel (now the PRCC) and continued as executive director until 1995.

He and Helen traveled the world visiting  chaplains and their wives for many years after Bill retired as senior pastor of Village Seven PCA in 1980.

Bill was a pioneer of the Rocky Mountain Presbytery of the EP, RPCES, and now PCA denominations. He served for many years on the early Boards of Covenant College and Covenant Theological Seminary. He was elected moderator of the RPCES when GA/Synod met at Glen Eyrie in Colorado Springs. Both Bill’s sons are elders in the PCA, William B. Leonard III (RE) and Stephen Leonard (TE), and both daughters have been active in PCA churches and ministries.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday afternoon, Oct. 4, at Village Seven Presbyterian Church, Colorado Springs, Colorado.
