Remembering Professor Emeritus Ray Dameron, 1923-2012
By

(From Covenant College) Covenant College Professor Emeritus Ray Dameron went home to be with the Lord on May 7, 2012.

Professor Dameron first started teaching for the College when it was located in St. Louis and then officially joined Covenant’s faculty as a physics professor in 1964, the year that the College moved from St. Louis to Lookout Mountain.

“When I arrived as a young, brand-new professor, both Ray Dameron and Jack Lothers became my mentors,” says Jerry Wenger, professor of biology. ” I was always amazed at how Ray could take miscellaneous pieces of ‘junk’ and build laboratory equipment for physics. What a pleasure it has been to have taught at Covenant College alongside such a great teacher and friend.”

After retiring in 1994, he and his wife, Dorothy, continued to live on Lookout Mountain. Professor Dameron concluded his work as an adjunct professor in 2001.

“Ray’s love for the Lord manifested in him a joy for living and learning,” says Dr. Jeff Hall, vice president for academic affairs. “His deep faith and his keen wit were sources of encouragement for the College community.”

Professor Dameron is survived by Dorothy and their daughter, Beth ’75, who is married to Randy Carroll ’74.

A graveside service will be held at  1:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 10, at the National Veterans Cemetery. A visitation will be held the following day from 10:30 a.m. to noon in the fellowship hall of Lookout Mountain Presbyterian Church, followed by a memorial service in the sanctuary.
