Women's Leadership Conference Attracts Broader Scope of Women

The 2010 Women in the Church Leadership Training Conference, sponsored by Christian Education and Publications (CE&P), will be held February 25-27 at the Atlanta Airport Marriott in Atlanta, Ga.

The Women’s Leadership Conference began 20 years ago as an annual WIC presbytery president’s meeting with just 25 women. Today, the conference is wider in scope, having expanded its training to all women who seek to grow as leaders, from small group Bible study leaders, to PCA staff women, to local women’s ministry leadership.

“The conference is now filled with women who mirror local churches,” said Jane Patete, CE&P’s women’s ministry coordinator. “It’s a wonderful intergenerational representation of seasons and circumstances, a wide variance of theological and ecclesiastical knowledge.”

The theme of the conference, “Gospel Driven Discipleship,” was chosen because it reflects CE&P women’s ministry’s overarching purpose to disciple leaders and equip them to disciple others, based on Titus 2:3-5, which encourages older women “to train the younger women … so that the word of God may not be reviled.”

“Our ministry is all about our need to disciple,” said Patete. “That’s who we are. We want to encourage and equip women to hone their discipleship skills.”

Jerram Barrs is this year’s featured speaker. Barrs is founder and resident scholar of the Francis Schaeffer Institute at Covenant Theological Seminary in St. Louis, Mo., where he is also professor of Christian studies and contemporary culture.

A variety of workshops will be available at the conference, ranging from the apologetics of women’s ministry to practical discipleship methods to utilizing social networking in ministry.
