Pop-Music Critic for The New Yorker to Speak at Covenant College, April 24
Covenant College presents a discussion with Sasha Frere-Jones, the pop-music critic for The New Yorker, on Friday, April 24, 2009, at 8:00 p.m. in the college’s Sanderson Hall auditorium. The event will be an informal time of discussion about recent trends in the music industry. The event is sponsored by the Covenant College Junior Class, and admission is free.
In the fall of 2008, the College's Student Senate, in conjunction with the World Journalism Institute, brought editor and senior staff writer for The New Yorker Hendrik Hertzberg to Covenant's campus to speak. The Junior Class wanted to host a similar event this spring, and the College's connection with The New Yorker helped to bring Frere-Jones to Covenant.
"It's important for us to be in the loop on what's going on in the political and music scenes, because they're a huge part of what makes our country tick," said James Harrison '10, a student who was instrumental in bringing both Hertzberg and Frere-Jones to Covenant. "If we're going to be active and engaged with our own culture, then understanding it would be a good idea. People like Hertzberg and Frere-Jones can help us do that in a lot of ways."
