PCA General Assembly News - June 11, 2008
The Administrative Committee reported the PCA’s 2007 statistics in comparison with 2006:
-Churches and missions number 1,666 – an increase of 27
-Total professions of faith number 10,201 – 415 fewer than 2006
-Total membership numbers 342,041 – an increase of 3,168
-Per capita giving is $2,517 – an increase of $134
Mission to North America highlighted its English as a Second Language (ESL) ministry to U.S. minority ethnic immigrants.
Christian Education and Publications previewed its upcoming conference “Making Visible God’s Invisible Kingdom,” November 13-15 in Atlanta, featuring speaker Charles Colson.
Mission to the World reported on a newly particularized denomination in Ukraine and a growing church-planting effort in India.
Covenant Theological Seminary praised God that its "By His Grace, For His Glory" capital campaign is projected to raise more than $14 million dollars by the time the three-year campaign closes in December 2008—well exceeding the original campaign goal of $12.5 million. The campaign funds will bring the total of contributions to the Seminary during this time-frame to more than $25 million.
The PCA Retirement and Benefits, Inc. (RBI), adopted a new strategic plan in 2007 to help more pastors achieve financial security.
Covenant College reported a number of improvements to the campus, including the completion of both a new residence hall and an academic building.
The PCA Foundation reported two new records this year—$18 million in funds were gifted to it in 2007, and it reached $51.7 million in total assets. “This will increase our ability to make grant distributions to help fund kingdom ministry,” said Randy Stair, president of the Foundation.
Ridge Haven Conference Center reported a number of financial challenges in 2007. It implemented several cost-cutting measures, including an increase of the 2008 camp fee, an increase in facility rates, and a reduction in full-time staff’s salaries.
Reformed University Fellowship (RUF) started seven new campus ministries in 2007, and more than 50 former RUF campus ministers are now serving as church planters, pastors, and associate pastors throughout the PCA.
An In Memoriam resolution was offered by Ligon Duncan on behalf of Robert C. Cannada, who died on July 5, 2007. Duncan said Cannada’s “vision and persistent enthusiasm enriched and served his local church, presbytery, and the entire denomination from its inception until the time of his death.”
