Pastor Kip Slawter Injured in Bike Accident

The Rev. William D. (Kip) Slawter, pastor of Hope PCA in Ballston Spa, N.Y., suffered major trauma in a bicycle accident Tuesday evening. According to pastor Larry Roff paralysis has, for now, left Slawter a quadriplegic.

Sally Jenkins, the Hope Church secretary, reported in an email that the accident occurred about 6:35 p.m. Tuesday. Slawter was transported to the Albany Medical Center. At that time, Jenkins’ email says, 'Slawter was awake and talking, but had no feeling from his chest down."

According to Jenkins, Kip Slawter underwent two surgical procedures. Doctors removed two disks, she reported, and transplanted bone fragments. At the time of Jenkins’ email, Slawter had no use of his arms or legs and remained on a ventilator.

The doctor felt the surgery went well, Jenkins wrote, “but Kip needs much prayer and a miracle. The doctor estimates that his chances for full recovery are 15-20 percent but he is in the Lord's hands ….”

AS a former pastor of Hope church, and familiar with Kip and his ministry, my prayers go up for the Slaughters and the congregation. Bethann joins me in expressing her love and concern.

As former colleagues of the Slawters in Sydney Australia, we send our love and promise of prayers in the days ahead. Beth being a paraplegic, we have some degree of understanding of the journey that lies ahead.

This is awful. Our prayers go out to the whole family. This can happen to Supermen. We pray God's every blessing on all of them and trust them to His care.

Beat the odds Kip and get well.

Well said, Steve & Beth! We have prayed and will be in prayer for you, Kip. As former residents of the Capital District in New York State, we know the gospel is needed desperately there. May God restore you and use this incident to His glory.

Dear Kip, someone on Facebook informed me of your situation. We were in classes together in high school and you may not even remember me but I did want to write to you and wish you the Lord's very best. I had not heard of you since high school and did not know that you were called into the Ministry. I am so happy and thrilled to hear of your service to the Lord; How wonderful that is. I am now in Etna, Maine and have pastored here for 13 years but have been in the ministry for many years. I was so moved when I heard of your accident. Please know that prayers are being lifted up in your behalf in this part of the world also. Thank God that nothing is impossible with Him. May HIs blessings in abundance be yours!
