MTW-RTS/Charlotte Partnership Expands Theological Training in Mexico
With an eye toward church planting, Mission to the World has entered into a partnership with Reformed Theological Seminary (RTS)/Charlotte for expanded theological education in Monterrey, Mexico. Numerous churches will also participate in the partnership.
“I am thankful to the Lord of the harvest about this strategic gospel partnership,” said Dr. Michael Milton, president of RTS/Charlotte. “It raises the temperature for world missions and church planting with our students, and helps our campus become directly involved in that Christ-ordained process.”
Andres Garza, an RTS/Charlotte graduate and Mexican national, will represent Mission to the World, recommending indigenous pastoral candidates to RTS for training.
“This is the first MTW partnership of its kind, with a specific focus on theological education,” said Garza. “Theological training is a key instrument for church planting. We aren’t able to plant churches with a multiplication and missionary mindset if we don’t train leaders first.”
RTS will provide tuition scholarships for Mexican national pastors and theologians-in-training, allowing them to return to Monterrey to become church planters and to lead a seminary-planting movement in Northern Mexico. Some 25 students currently attend the Mexican Theological Institute of Ministry, which was started two years ago by the Mexican National Presbyterian Church and MTW.
Several U.S. churches are participating in the Monterrey Partnership, including First Presbyterian Church of Chattanooga, Pinewoods Presbyterian Church near Jacksonville, Fla., and Bethel Presbyterian Church of Clover, S.C.
