MTW Issues Disaster Relief Appeal for Hurricane Victims in Haiti
Mission to the World (MTW) recently issued a Minuteman appeal for those devastated by Hurricane Ike in Haiti.
“I want to give praise and glory to God for saving my life with my family,” said Charles Amicy, longtime MTW national partner in Haiti who survived Hurricane Ike’s assault on September 8. “I want to express my gratitude to everyone who lifted us up before the throne of God while we were in extreme danger. It was the darkest night of my life.”
Hurricane Ike marked the fourth storm to hit Haiti in a three-week period, leaving a swatch of destruction that killed more than 600 and rendered homeless hundreds of thousands who now desperately need food, shelter, and clean water.
“MTW’s Minuteman funding provides disaster relief at the request of national churches on the field—extending their work and helping provide credibility to their long-term ministry,” said Oscar Aylor, director of mercy ministries for MTW. “At Charles Amicy’s request, MTW is sending in an assessment team this week to evaluate the need for future medical, construction, and counseling help in his community.”
MTW’s Minuteman program is a ministry of compassionate response to urgent human suffering.
