Four Possible GA Moderator Nominees Emerge
In advance of the PCA’s 36th General Assembly, to be held June 10-13 in Dallas, Texas, four nominees have emerged for the office of moderator:
--The Rev. David H. Clelland of North Texas Presbytery, who has served as the pastor of Town North Presbyterian Church in Dallas since 1980. Clelland has also served on a number of presbytery and General Assembly committees, including the Strategic Planning Committee.
--Dr. Tom Kay, Jr., of Warrior Presbytery, who has served as pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Aliceville, Ala., since 1994. He has served as a pastor since 1965 in Alabama, Georgia, and Mississippi.

--Dr. Paul D. Kooistra of Warrior Presbytery, who has served as coordinator of Mission to the World since 1994. Previously, he served as president of Covenant Theological Seminary, professor at Reformed Theological Seminary and Belhaven College, and staff minister in Florida.
--Dr. O. Palmer Robertson of Potomac Presbytery, who serves as director and principal at African Bible College, Uganda, where he has taught since 1992. He has been on the faculties of Covenant, Knox, Reformed, and Westminster Theological Seminaries, and has served churches in Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, and Pennsylvania.
Typically, the first order of business at General Assembly is to elect a new moderator, who then presides over the business meetings of the rest of the Assembly. “By tradition, the PCA elects a teaching elder or a ruling elder as moderator in alternating years,” said Roy Taylor, stated clerk of the PCA. “And 2008 is a teaching elder year.”
In addition to his role within the Assembly, the moderator’s responsibilities also include appointing members of ad interim committees (if the Assembly moves to allow him to do so) and to serve a six-year term on the Cooperative Ministries Committee.
Additional nominations for moderator may be made from the floor of the Assembly on June 10.

What does it mean for a list of names to "emerge?" How does this happen? Who "emerges" the names? Was there a meeting of "emergers" to create a list of "emergees?" I would love to see come clarification of the process here.
