Covenant Theological Seminary Co-Hosts “Ethnic Ministries Summit”

This week’s Ethnic Ministries Summit in St. Louis, co-hosted by Covenant Theological Seminary, has been four years in the making.

“St. Louis is one of the most racially divided cities in the nation,” said Nelson Jennings, professor of world mission at Covenant and one of the speakers at this week’s Summit. “This conference is a way for African-American and white Christians to come together—it’s a great blessing.”

The Ethnic Ministries Summit, held in major cities throughout the U.S. each year, seeks to equip local churches to reach first- and second-generation immigrants and refugees with the gospel. The St. Louis event arose from the network created by the Billy Graham Crusade in St. Louis in 2000.

“There’s a strong overlap between urban ministry concerns and ethnic concerns, because that’s generally where immigrants and refugees live,” said Jennings.

Now, Covenant is partnering with the Summit by offering an academic track within the conference. “We’re using it as our missions focus,” said Jennings. “And we’re hosting several on-campus events during the conference to dovetail with the Summit.”

Jennings and Jerram Barrs of Covenant Seminary will both speak about “Crossing Ethnic and National Boundaries” during the conference, under the larger theme of “Standing Together—That We May Be One.”

The 2008 Ethnic Ministries Summit will take place April 10-12 at Friendly Temple Missionary Baptist Church, in St. Louis. To learn more visit www.ethnic-america.net.

It's very encouraging to see our Seminary taking a leadership role in the call for believers to unite across ethnic & cultural lines!

God grant us grace and wisdom, that we may speak, and others understand; and that we may listen, and truly understand. This summit is a wonderful breakthrough!
