Camp Facilities Expand Fairmont Outreach
New campground facilities at MTW’s word and deed ministry project in Fairmont, W.Va., will allow more short-term members to participate in the project than ever before.
“This 240-acre facility puts us in a different location, eases our logistical challenges, and offers lots of room for future expansion,” said Doug Mallow, senior project administrator for the Fairmont program. “We also have our own place to serve and worship more effectively, as well as additional ministry and recreational spaces for ultimate Frisbee, softball, and basketball.”
More than 10,000 short-term participants have traveled to Fairmont, W.Va., with MTW since 1994 to serve the local needy community through home repair, VBS, sports camps, and backyard Bible clubs. The new campground will be able to host 200 people at a time, and the camp will eventually be winterized to expand its use beyond the summer.
“The Fairmont mission project offers a unique opportunity for team building and an engaging/equipping ministry as the gospel is lived out in practical ways,” said Mallow. “And through that process, our short-term participants return to their home churches more equipped to engage their own communities.”
