After graduating from Reformed Theological Seminary in 1973 Sweet served the PCA faithfully. He was pastor of Brandon Presbyterian Church in Brandon, Miss. from 1973 to 1976. He then became pastor of Trinity Presbyterian in Asheville, N.C. from 1976 to 1981, and then served in several posts at the PCA’s Retirement and Benefits, Inc. and Christian Education & Publications Committee (CE&P). While serving at CE&P Sweet was editor of byFaith’s predecessor publication, The PCA Messenger. Bob and Shirley have continued their discipleship ministry, and Bob has served for the last several years as supply pastor of Open Door Community Church (PCA).

Fine man with a gentle spirit. He was a great encouragement to me early in my ministry when we served in the same presbytery.

We are blessed blessed by having know and spent time with couples or individuals. Bob & Shirley were certainly that fragrance aroma that the bible talks about of being Jesus and His disciples! Ann and I celebrate Bob being with our Lord and grieve with Shirley and their children and grandchildren as of the deep loss of their husband and father. Warmly Steve

Another of our giants has fallen. I served with Bob in North Georgia presbytery for 13 years. He taught me often what it means to be a better pastor. Deeply saddened by his loss and for his family.

Bob and Shirley took my wife, Cynthia, and me "under their wings" in our years together at RTS in Jackson. Bob was always an encourager and a joyful man of God. Heaven and Jesus welcomed a true gentle-man.

Bob was my encourager. When he was the editor of The Messenger he encouraged me to write. I met him in person at Granada Presbyterian Church in Miami where I was working. He was a kind, gentle man with great Godly wisdom. I'm so sorry for your loss.
