Lois Smith: 1925-2018

Lois Virginia Knopf Smith, 93, wife of the late Dr. Morton H. Smith, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, January 29, 2018.

Daughter of the late Theodore and Edith Knopf, she was born on July 7, 1925 in Detroit, Michigan. She studied to be a concert pianist at the University of Michigan and also took a second major in Voice Performance.

The Smiths were married on June 30, 1944, and upon moving to Jackson, MS, Mrs. Smith graduated from Belhaven University in 1948. She worked from 1978 to 1986 for the Office of the Stated Clerk of the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA), and she will be remembered as a loving mother, wife, homemaker, and friend.

Throughout her life, she was a faithful member of local congregations of the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA), the latest of which was Cornerstone Presbyterian Church in Brevard, NC, pastored by Rev. Dr. H. Andrew Silman.

She is survived by her daughter and son, two grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Along with her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her brother, Carl Knopf.

Funeral services will be held at 3 PM on Thursday, February 1, 2018 at Cornerstone Presbyterian Church (PCA), 645 Bert Lane, Brevard, NC 28712. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Greenville Presbyterian Theological Seminary, PO Box 690, Taylors, SC 29687 (www.gpts.edu/donate).
