Alabama Church Sustains Damage, No Injuries

Community Presbyterian Church in Moody, Ala., sustained heavy damage to its sanctuary in Tuesday’s storms, but no church members were injured. A tree fell on a corner of the sanctuary, damaging a large portion of the roof and two walls. The congregation will hold worship in its gym.

Rev. Burt Boykin, pastor of Community Pres, said that while the town sustained heavy damage, the community is grateful to still exist. “Moody is a mess, but at least we still have a community to clean up,” he said. “Some areas lost everything.”

There have been at least 210 confirmed deaths throughout the state due to the storms, which hit on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Boykin said Oak Mountain Presbyterian Church in Birmingham is sending relief crews to Moody on Saturday to deliver supplies to area residents on behalf of Community Pres.

He asked for prayer that his church would think missionally and reach out to the hurting in the community with the gospel. “We need the gospel to take root in us so that it can flow out to the community.”
